Deadly 405 Freeway Motorcycle Crash in Irvine

An early morning collision on the southbound 405 just north of Bake Parkway in Irvine left one person dead and forced a full lane closure. CHP logged the crash shortly before 5:56 a.m., and Caltrans issued a SigAlert that pushed traffic back to Sand Canyon while the investigation continued.

The fatal Irvine crash was one of three motorcycle incidents reported across Southern California the same morning: a rider was killed around 12:30 a.m. on the southbound 101 at Normandie Avenue in East Hollywood, and another motorcyclist was extricated after becoming trapped beneath a semitruck on the southbound 5 near the 10 in Boyle Heights before 6 a.m. Details on causes and the parties involved remain under investigation.
